Two fan-favorite characters are getting their own miniseries from DC Comics as Fire and Ice are about to star in a brand-new comic focusing on the iconic pair's adventures.
Fire and Ice became popular in the much-beloved Justice League International series, where their friendship began. The characters have starred in many stories together, the most recent being Tom King and Greg Smallwood’s The Human Target, where Ice played a significant role in the JLI-based comic. Now, DC Comics is giving Fire and Ice their own new series in Fire & Ice: Welcome to Smallville from Joanne Starer, Natacha Bustos, Tamra Bonvillain, and Ariana Maher. The new story will focus on the heroes being sent to Smallville after a mission goes wrong. As a result, Fire and Ice will try to adjust to their much less exciting new normal. Think The Simple Life meets the DC Universe. Check out the text synopsis for the issue below:
Things could not possibly be worse for Fire and Ice, in Beatriz da Costa’s professional opinion. Superman sent the former Justice Leaguers packing for Smallville following an extremely public and utterly disastrous mission (that was all Guy Gardner’s fault, thank you very much) and in doing so doomed them to a fate worse than death: irrelevance. Ice finds herself drawn to the quiet life and dreams of planting roots. But Fire…well, Fire will do just about anything to get the heck outta Dodge and back on the hero circuit—including challenging the DCU’s biggest villains to a knock-down, drag-out, live-streamed brawl in the streets of Smallville! A raucous, timely, unflinching comedy about a decades-long friendship on the brink of disaster and what it means to be a superhero at a crossroads in your life, Fire & Ice: Welcome to Smallville reintroduces the iconic duo to the Dawn of DC, in a series from rising star Joanne Starer (The Gimmick, Sirens of the City) and Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur co-creator Natacha Bustos!
Fire and Ice #1 has some incredibly exciting cover artists working on the series. Fire and Ice: Welcome to Smallville #1 features a main cover from Terry and Rachel Dodson, featuring the characters arriving in the small town. David Nakayama draws a stunning cover featuring Fire and Ice and Power Girl - a cover also available as a foil variant. Jen Bartel’s card stock variant features the pair of heroes in fashionable new outfits. For fans of the original Justice League International series, Kevin Maguire spoofs his iconic JLI #1 cover in a 1:25 variant featuring just Fire and Ice. The 1:50 incentive variant comes from Amanda Conner, who draws Fire and Ice alongside Superman. CaptCan Comics will have all incentives available upon release!
For fans who want to see more stories starring Fire and Ice, we strongly recommend picking up Fire & Ice: Welcome to Smallville #1. The characters have long deserved their own starring comics, and it appears DC Comics is going all-out in ensuring the series' first issue is a can’t-miss, fun blast.
