The Amazing Spider-Man #31 arrives at CaptCan Comics this week, and the oversized issue promises the “Wedding of the Year.” However, it’s not Peter Parker who is tying the knot.
Spider-Man comics have featured several iconic marriages throughout its stories, the most notable being the marriage of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #21. The nuptials were eventually retconned out of existence after Peter made a deal with Mephisto in the critically-maligned One More Day storyline. In The Amazing Spider-Man, Peter and MJ aren’t even together, as the heroine formed a new relationship with a man named Paul after being stuck in a different dimension with him for years and forming a family with adopted children. However, after Rabin erased their children from existence, the current status quo is likely to be shaken up again. But, first, a marriage between one of Peter’s best friends and a supervillain.
In The Amazing Spider-Man #31, Janice Lincoln (the villain, Beetle) and Peter Parker’s former roommate Randy Robertson will marry, with Spider-Man serving as his best man. With Lincoln being the daughter of Tombstone, expect fireworks in the wedding issue as trouble often follows the villain. The issue will feature stories from Zeb Wells, Dan Slott, Kaare Andrews, Patrick Gleason, Mark Bagley, David Lopez, Pace Medina, John Romita Jr., and other popular creators.
JR JR and Scott Hanna team up for the main cover for the issue, featuring Spider-Man and Tombstone surrounded by guns. Standard variants come from the late George Perez, Greg Land (doing a Black Cat-starring cover), and John Tyler Christopher (drawing Ms. Marvel in her new X-Men costume as part of his Negative Space variants). Elena Casagrande draws a Women of Marvel variant featuring Spider-Woman, while several second-printing variants feature Mary Jane Watson’s Jackpot. Land and Perez’s cover will be available as 1:50 and 1:100 virgin variants, respectively, while Jim Cheung draws classic Spidey for the 1:25 variant.
SPECIAL OVER-SIZED ISSUE! IT’S THE WEDDING OF THE YEAR! Peter Parker is the best man, and Tombstone is walking the bride down the aisle! That’s right—Janice Lincoln and Randy Robertson are tying the knot, and there’s NO WAY all the crime bosses in NYC aren’t seeing this as an opportunity to off Tombstone. This story sets up our big Spider-Event of Zeb Wells and John Romita Jr.’s second year on ASM, and that’s just the HALF of it! Also in this issue: bachelor/bachelorette parties, other ASM-story preludes, glimpses of some of the biggest unannounced Spider-projects and extra bonus awesomeness!
