Andy Samberg's Debut Comic 'The Holy Roller' Released!

Actor and writer Andy Samberg has joined the world of comic books, as the Brooklyn Nine-Nine actor has written his debut story in the medium in the new book, The Holy Roller, co-written by The Deadly Class’ Rick Remender and Fall Out Boy lead guitarist Joe Throhman, with Wolverine artist Roland Boschi joining the team to help bring the series to life.
Andy Samberg has become one of the comedy genre’s most notable actors, first gaining recognition with his comedy trio, The Lonely Island, who joined Saturday Night Live in 2005, where they helped usher in the Digital Shorts format. Since leaving SNL in 2012, Samberg has starred in several huge projects, including The Hotel Transylvania series, the indie favorite Palm Springs, and voicing Ben Reilly in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Samberg might be best known now for starring in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, where his portrayal of the lovably silly police officer Jake Peralta earned him a Golden Globe for best comedy actor. Now that Nine-Nine is over, Samberg is entering the world of comics. The Holy Roller follows a former pro-bowler who turns into a vigilante (with a bowling ball as a weapon) to take down crime - including Neo-Nazis who have infiltrated his hometown. The story feels like something Samberg could bring to the big screen in one of his Loney Island-style movies.
The Image Comics series features main covers from Boschi and Moreno DiNisio, showing the titular hero lining up a bloody strike with a bowling ball. J.H. Williams III’s variant features the hero smashing a swastika in a stand against Neo-Nazies. Brett Parson’s 1:10 variant is an homage to Judge Dredd. Keron Grant draws the Holy Roller in full costume with his trademark ball in a 1:15 cover. Brian Level’s 1:20 incentive art features a wind-up from the main hero atop a bloodied adversary. Mike Hawthorne’s 1:25 cover dials up the blood in a violent artwork. Lastly, Rafael Albuquerque shows the Holy Rollers' brutal nature in a head-popping 1:50 variant.
