Spider-Man has sported many iconic looks over the years in his adventures in the pages of Marvel Comics, but few costumes were more exciting and unpredictable than the web-slinger’s black suit. Now, Marvel is revisiting the symbiote suit its latest ongoing new miniseries from Dan Jurgens, Erica Schultz, Greg Weisman, Javier Fernandez and Marcelo Ferreira tackling issue two of Spider-Man: Black Suit & Blood.
In 1984’s Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars crossover event, Spider-Man first ends up with the symbiote suit, as he brings it back to Earth — where he would later abandon the symbiote, leading to the creation of Venom in the Marvel Universe. Before giving up the symbiote, Spider-Man wore his black costume during the events of Kraven’s Last Hunt which saw the villain take up the mantle of Spider-Man after burying Peter Parker alive.
The 40th anniversary celebrations of the beloved suit in Spider-Man: Black Suit & Blood features main cover art from Giuseppe Camuncoli and Edgar Delgado, featuring a large selection of heroes and villains who have donned the black suit. Mitsuhiro Arita's variant showcases Spidey's iconic suit against an illuminated red background. Doaly draws a 1:25 variant, while Arita's 1:100 variant takes the trade dressing off of his variant cover. Check out the main cover followed by the text solicit.
