Oliver Queen Returns in New DC Green Arrow Series!

Oliver Queen Returns in New DC Green Arrow Series!

By Liam McGuire

Apr 28th 2023

Oliver Queen is back in the pages of DC Comics, as the Emerald Archer is starring in a new ongoing series focusing on the Green Arrow family in a way readers have anticipated for a very long time. Spinning out of the events of Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths, the likes of Black Canary, Roy Harper, Connor Hawke, and Cheshire Cat are playing more prominent roles in the new comic, with the long-awaited reunion between Roy and his daughter Lian playing a key emotional hook in the story. However, before a full reunion can be made, Lian and Connor are taken away, and they find themselves in a world where the missing Oliver Queen is being hunted.

Oliver Queen’s status in current continuity has been grim after the hero was presumed dead following the greatest heroes in the DC Universes' battle to save the Multiverse against Deathstroke and Pariah’s attack. Following the victory, the Justice League disbanded, and Team Arrow tried to move on from their most significant loss ever. But, in Green Arrow #1 by Joshua Williamson and Sean Izaakse, Green Arrow is revealed to be alive but trapped in a world he can’t escape from. But, with Connor and Lian being mysteriously taken to the realm, there is hope to save him - even if Oliver doesn’t believe so.

Previews for Green Arrow #2 tease the arrival of a new villain, Troublemaker, who will make their first appearance in the issue. Check out the cover art by Sean Izaakse and Romulo Fajardo Jr., showcasing an armored Oliver Queen being hunted by his new villain. It appears Troublemaker is part of whatever is preventing Green Arrow from leaving—additionally, The text preview hints at what’s coming next in the series.

Green Arrow is alive…but where the hell is he?! That’s what Roy Harper and Black Canary want to know, and their search takes them into the bowels of Belle Reve. But they’d better hurry—the stranded Oliver Queen and another lost member of the Green Arrow family are both being hunted by a brand-new villain called…Troublemaker.

Green Arrow #2 also features a red variant cover from David Nakayama, an AAPI Heritage Month variant cover starring Emiko Queen and Red Canary by Marcio Takara, and a 1:25 variant cover from artist Ejikure.

There’s also good news for readers looking for more Green Arrow comics, as the 6-issue miniseries has been extended to a 12-issue comic. So, after not having a series for a few years, Oliver Queen and his family are getting at least two new story arcs. For readers wanting to pick up the emotional issue one, check out CaptCan Comics now! Don’t forget to preorder future issues of Green Arrow, as issue two arrives on May 23, 2023.
