Starts playing the X-Men: The Animated Series theme music.
The animated versions of the X-Men from the late 90s are back in a brand-new continuation of the X-Men: The Animated Series on Disney+ that has fans incredibly excited about the new adventures of Marvel’s most iconic mutants. Alongside the show, X-Men: ‘97 will be getting a brand new prequel comic book series from Steve Foxe and Salva Espin, a must-read for those watching the show.
The original X-Men: Animated Series debuted in 1992, bringing classic comic book storylines to the small screen. The acclaimed cartoon featured the likes of Cyclops, Bishop, Wolverine, Rogue, Gambit, Jean Grey, Professor X, Storm, Beast, and more, with iconic takes on Days of Future Past, The Dark Phoenix Saga, and the Phalanx Covenant. After a five-season run featuring a crossover with the Spider-Man animated show, X-Men: The Animated Series ended and is often considered one of the greatest comic book-related adapted media.
With Disney+ reviving X-Men: The Animated Series in X-Men ‘97, the comic book will fill in some gaps between what’s happened since the show finished — and is important for those readers who want to know more about the whereabouts of its heroes and villains. Covers for the debut issue include one by Todd Nauck featuring all the main heroes in action. David Baldeon will draw a variant, as will Ben Harvey, who tackles Rogue in his alternate cover. Russell Dauterman shows the fan-favorite characters in action in his excellent throwback cover. On the incentive front, Harvey’s Rogue cover will be available as a 1:100 variant, while Ethan Young is doing a yet-to-be-revealed 1:25 variant. Check out Datuerman’s cover, followed by the text solicitation for X-Men ‘97 #1.
